We understand that it might look like a lot of work. However, there are very clearly stated guidelines for travelling around Bangkok and getting to the bus stop to catch the bus to Chumphon.
As you exit the airport, keep going towards the signs leading to 'Lomprayah' and take a bus / taxi to the Lomprayah station in Bangkok.
Once you get there you can easily get tickets to go to Koh Tao. You can eat / chill while you wait for your bus. Since Lomprayah is the sole agency that controls this, you can never get lost. Even if you pass out sitting somewhere, they'll find you! If they aren't able to, you can always take the next one which is never more than an hour away!
Once you get to Chumphon, you'll be guided to the ferry for Koh Tao.
Alternates to this long travel?
You can fly into Koh Samui, take a taxi to the ferry and take a ferry to Koh Tao. It will be a little more expensive but you will do away with the overnight bus journey. You can find all information here
Koh Tao is an ultimate destination for that bachelor trip that you and your friends have always been planning for ! It is the ultimate bagpacker destination with a lot of partying, booze and young souls. It is also an ideal destination for single travellers to meet people from all over the world.
